Awww. Am I being too hard on our elected representatives?
Government basically has one job. Protect its citizens.
Military funding, public safety and health, and corporate regulation for the purposes of public safety are all worthwhile government endeavors.
First Lady libraries, Charlie Rangel policy institutes, and, yes, "abstinence education programs" are all wastes of taxpayers dollars, especially when in the form of lawmaker driven earmarks.

Arlen Spector is sending the nearly one million to cronies who helped him get elected who just happen to be proponents and developers of abstinece education programs.
That's why you protest.
You protest to remain consistent so that even your own pet interests do not outweigh your interests in the overall sanctity of your Government and Country.
Wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars isn't ok just because Republicans happen to be doing it in the name of allegedly Conservative causes.

It trully boggles the mind. I really wish their was a way for taxpayers to actually pay taxes on things they actually use. But can a use-tax really work? Have each person fund, through taxes, a certain amount of government programs, for example, the military, highways, etc. stuff that benefits ALL of us. Then, pay or not pay for certain other programs. Like Social Security, like public education. I do not send my kids to public schools, why can't I get that portion of my tax dollars back since I don't use that program? Makes sense right, but can a plan be put into place that can actually accomplish that? I don't know, I'm rambling, but smarter people than me can surely find a way.
Every politician has their hand in the public till, always have and always will. It's a way to "reward" their BIG money supporters. Right or wrong, it's going to be tough to change that.
I just wish my tax structure could change.

Why does Spector need an earmark for abstinence education? Why isn't that taught alongside the cucumber and condom demonstrations? Oh wait, why is the government involved in that at all. Beyond the biology of reproduction, they need to back off.

Gates Jawbones Hill on War Spending
Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday that unless Congress passes funding for the Iraq war within days, he will direct the Army and Marine Corps to begin developing plans to lay off employees and terminate contracts early next year.
Gates, who met with members of Congress on Wednesday, said that he does not have the money or the flexibility to move funding around to adequately cover the costs of the continuing operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This legislation was due in June. Each Military facility has been on a strict austerity program because of the Dems pulling this shit.

In regards to (conserva-giant ) ... I sit back and hear issues that everybody is intended to argue by the handpicked candidates ie: taxes , abortion , jobs , immigration . . . . . And I say Ron Paul can fix that ----
He is the only candidate with a stance like yours on that issue of taxes - he says we have the choice to spend the money on goods and services as individuals . .
I think anybody that is politically active and informed (anybody who blogs these things in november , haha) . . .should definately wake up and take a serious look at a candidate like Ron Paul .
Us Paul supporters have been slandered by Jamie Allman , Glenn Beck ,and many other Mainstream guys ,,, but the truth remains that he is the Only candidate on both sides of the aisles with Truth on his side .
Honestly the deck is stacked in the current "system's" favor with handpicked candidates like Giuliani , Romney , Mccain , Clinton , Obama , Edwards ,and Fred Thompson .
But truth be told , We as U.S. citizens don't have to and should never be used as fodder in this game ...
There is no shame in not voting for a big name guy especially in primaries , in fact if you wanted any kind of real change in our government , then the key would be to not vote for big name people .
I know I barely brushed the surface of the topic at hand , but I think it is fair in time that we take a serious look at Dr. Ron Paul when we want to resolve issues with our government .

I am in complete agreement with you on this. I think the majority of my taxes should go to the military, roads and other things that everyone uses. There should be a portion though, that I can dictate where it goes. First, I don't want my taxes going to pay for abortions, or illegals' schooling, or subsidies to hospitals for taking illegals in, or cameras on the traffic signals, or any number of ridiculous things that we all have to pay for. I don't want it and this is MY government, just as much as it is YOUR government.

LTL - - -The problem with society in general is that we are complacent .. As you have said , the issues such as taxes yada yada yada .... have been abundent for years but no real work is ever done on them ... serioussly none , if anything it just gets more expensive for the common man to live , period .
Hence , Ron Paul is proposing a brand new approach to the system as a whole , and not just playing into the populist attitudes with every candidate . .

I am not specifically comparing Paul to Washington , i was just saying that a new set of ideas isn't always a bad thing . Just think of all the people that probably hated George Washington and thought he was a "radical" .
Your article somewhat concerns me because Ron Paul meets with Alex Jones , Nom Chomsky , Sherry Jackson and all of the alternative media sources to speak from a true point of view , not to bash the system but speak from a different prospective . The polls are the official straw polls and the post-debate text message and phone in polls for cnn , foxnews , and nbc .
The online polls from those sources do not reflect that , because he isn't a choice . . That is where the media has their say-so in it . .
